Bannockburn Chapel Shrine (Grotto)

By John Dreckowski 6th December 2011

This Story related to Janette Caw (nee Forsyth) by her mother.
The shrine standing in front of the Chapel was built by some young men from Chapel congregation.  When they started work to build the dome at the top of the shrine they sought advice from a local man with experience in building works called Joe Mooney who at the time was the owner of the local Regent picture house. As they were placing the last brick in place to complete the works an old tramp called “Rosebud” stopped to enquire what was going on, after being told what was happening she pulled a coin from her pocket and throw it on the floor of the shrine.
